“I promise that as you lift those around you, the Lord God […] will lift you.”

My cousin is currently serving a mission and wrote that one day, her companion prayed and asked God to have anyone who needed to hear the gospel wear a red shirt the next day.

Well, she didn’t realize it, but the next day was game day in a university town. And the university’s color was red. They woke up to everyone wearing red.

I died laughing when I heard this story—God’s funny way of saying “EVERYONE NEEDS THIS MESSAGE!”

I thought back on it a lot as I read Doctrine and Covenants 60.

The Lord says, “But with some I am not well pleased, for they will not open their mouths, but they hide the talent which I have given unto them, because of the fear of man.”

How many times do we fear opening our mouths? Not wanting to inconvenience. Not wanting to risk an awkward situation. Not wanting to say something wrong.

Caring about the terrestrial when dealing with the celestial.

God says He “will make [us] holy.”

Meaning, God can set us apart for this sacred purpose.

He will qualify you.

Maybe the “talent” which God has given each of us and doesn’t want hidden is Christ. Because we share the gospel, we are sharing God’s greatest gift—His son.

We are not alone in this work. As President Uchtdorf said: “I promise that as you lift those around you, the Lord God…will lift you.”

Don’t be afraid to open your mouth and share the good news.

As you do God’s work, He will lift you.

Because it truly is His work—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of men.

He wants everyone to hear it.

And ironically, when Christ comes, He will be wearing red. 😉
