For those who don’t feel like they fit in the family proclamation…
Remember, the most important relationship we will have in this life is with our Savior. As we cling to Him, we can feel peace in any circumstance we find ourselves in.
I had a single friend tell me that in her thirty years of being single, something she has learned is that so many times, we mistakenly put the ladder of our progression on the wall of family and then try to climb up the rungs. While family is critical, she said our ladder must be placed against the wall of Jesus Christ. That is where progression takes place. That is where stability lies.
When we do that, no matter our situation, God will use us and help us become the people we need to be.
Remember, the proclamation states that temples make it possible for “INDIVIDUALS to return to the presence of God.” Ultimately, we must each individually use our agency to return to our maker.
Christ himself did not have the “ideal” family life. His mother conceived him while only betrothed. Some of his siblings did not believe he was the Messiah (John 7:5). There is no hard evidence that he had a wife or children here on Earth. And yet, look at how He fulfilled His life mission.
As one sister said,
“I don’t think that God is suddenly wondering what to do with me.
“He is not trying to “fit” me into His plan—I already belong there, as we all do.”
God has a plan for you.
He has a plan for all of us.
No matter what our earthly family looks like, we are each “a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents” who love us.
And as members of a Heavenly family, we have a duty and must do better at being inclusive of those around us.
Love first.
Get involved.
We need each other.
